Domenica 8 dicembre, solennità dell'Immacolata Concezione della Beata Vergine Maria, durante la Messa delle nove, saranno benedette le nuove tessere di Azione Cattolica. Dopo la Messa, in sala rossa, ci sarà un piccolo rinfresco, saranno consegnate le nuove tessere e si terranno le elezioni per nominare la nuova / il nuovo Presidente del gruppo. Potremo anche confrontarci sulla programmazione delle future attività. Sarà molto gradita la partecipazione dei lettori romani che frequentano questo blog. Sarebbe bello poterci incontrare periodicamente in parrocchia anche per approfondire i temi del pensiero sociale cristiano e della democrazia, in particolare approfondendo da cattolici la dottrina sociale. Chi vive lontano, potrebbe prendere l'iniziativa per nuovi gruppi di Azione Cattolica: la nostra associazione è diffusa in tutto il mondo. O per aderire ai gruppi già esistenti che si sono costituiti lì dove abita.
Spesso si pensa alla Chiesa cattolica come ad un'istituzione antica. Qui a Roma viviamo tra cose antiche, che, nel complesso, costituiscono quello che in un film di successo di qualche anno fa venne definito "La Grande Bellezza". Tuttavia, se è vero che la nostra Chiesa ha una lunga storia, nel bene ma anche nel molto male che è stato fatto e da cui tentiamo costantemente di allontanarci, è anche vero che essa vive nell'attesa che ogni cosa sia fatta nuova, e appunto siamo sulla soglia di un profondo rinnovamento, in particolare in Europa. Il recente Sinodo sull'Amazzonia ne è stato il preludio.
Dopo un lungo periodo di pace, che non ha precedenti nella storia dell'umanità, le politiche imperialiste delle maggiori potenze mondiali stanno creando gravi tensioni ai confini dell'Unione Europea e producono una pressione politica per disgregarla. Anche per l'Unione Europea, alla cui costruzione hanno così tanto contribuito movimenti ispirati al cristianesimo sociale, e tra essi quelli guidati dalla dottrina sociale, è tempo di grandi cambiamenti, in questa nuova situazione. Purtroppo, a differenza di ciò che accadde negli anni Quaranta e Cinquanta del secolo scorso, la capacità di ideazione sociale dei cristiani sembra minore, e addirittura irrilevante. Mancano grandi prospettive e le politiche prevalenti sembrano concentrate sulle risoluzione delle emergenze correnti. Ogni nazione è tentata di fare da sé, tenendo conto dei propri interessi concreti, senza considerare a sufficienza che è proprio dall'intensa collaborazione attuata nella costruzione dell'unità politica continentale che è scaturito il più importante risultato: la lunga pace europea. E' la visione biblica che animò i cristiani europei a costruire, dopo la rovina della Seconda Guerra mondiale causata dai fascismi del continente, una vasta realtà sociale completamente nuova.

We often think to the Catholic Church as an ancient institution. However, if it is true that our Church has a long history, in good but also in the very evil that has been done and from which we constantly try to turn away, it is also true that it lives in expectation that everything is made new, and precisely we are on the threshold of a profound renewal, particularly in Europe. The recent Synod on the Amazon was its prelude.
After a long period of peace, which is unprecedented in the history of humanity, the imperialist policies of the major world powers are creating serious tensions on the borders of the European Union and producing political pressure to break it up. Even for the European Union, whose movements have so much contributed movements inspired by social Christianity, and among them those guided by social doctrine, it is time for great changes, in this new situation. Unfortunately, unlike what happened in the 1940s and 1950s, the capacity for social conception of Christians seems minor, and even irrelevant. Large prospects are lacking and the prevailing policies seem to be focused on resolving current emergencies. Every nation is tempted to do it by itself, taking into account its own concrete interests, without considering sufficiently that it is precisely from the intense collaboration implemented in the construction of the continental political unity that the most important result has come: the long European peace. It is the biblical vision that animated European Christians to build, after the ruin of the Second World War caused by the continent's fascisms, a vast new social reality.
